The Last Post
At the end of World at One on BBC Radio 4 on 4 November, there was an unusual rendition of The Last Post, played on the oboe by Paul Sartin of Bellowhead. Sartin’s contribution is part of a national programme in the UK commemorating World War 1.
The Last Post ‘is a mass participation project that will see communities across the UK playing the Last Post on a variety of different instruments to remember lives of World War One.’
While searching for the links for this post I came across Mark Knopfler’s version. (Which I confess I prefer to Sartin’s).
Also in World at One was an item on the Samuel Johnson prize for non-fiction, the winner having been announced on Tuesday night. You can read more about the prize here.
