Uber Eats now delivers books from Exclusive Books. The food delivery service made the announcement on Thursday. Over 100 of the chain’s selected books will be available, and delivery is free for the month of May.
“We’ve been working hard to expand our options on Uber Eats,” says the platform’s South African general manager, Ailyssa Pretorius.
“Great books are just as essential as great meals, something people will want at their fingertips in future.”
Apart from food deliveries during the lockdown, Uber Eats also delivers other essentials such as supplies from pharmacies, snack and nappies.
Book and stationery stores opened their doors on Friday, 1 May, as the country entered into Level 4 of the national lockdown.
Business Insider South Africa previously reported that Exclusive Books would be opening 36 of its outlets. According to CEO, Grattan Kirk, the store’s branches would remove all non-book wares, such as gifts, from racks, but as branches work through their books to see which are not educational they will “probably err towards argument that every book irrespective of what it is” could be educational.
Even if some are reading those same books only for pleasure.
“One person’s education is another person’s recreation,” he said.
Those buying books on the app can expect to pay roughly 10% more for their books, than if they were bought in-store. Fanatics members can still earn their points by typing in their Fanatics number when ordering.

Click on “search” on the Uber Eats app.
On the drop-down menu, select the “convenience” tab…
